“American” identity is a lie, yet we don’t have a diaspora—our ancestors gave up their identities to become white. Are there other white folks searching for identity beyond that lie?

Unlearning that feels like part of unlearning white supremacy too. My great-grandfather spoke Swedish and knew the culture—but even he only knew a post-Christian, already colonized Sweden.

I’ve been celebrating Yule and learning runes, but I still feel like I barely know Swedish culture beyond the stereotypes. I know visiting Sweden, which I plan to do, would help—but I also wonder: are there others whose elders let go of culture to assimilate into whiteness?
