When I lived in Fresno and suggested that Paducah had a thriving arts community, people were aghast. It helped that another person who was involved knew of it and validated it.

I think it was mostly that they didn’t see the value in outsiders’ best practices.

I call mine “big ass salads”, and there are very few guardrails as to what can be added.

For me, it could be. How would I know? I lacked any curiosity but for a day trip once. But I lump everything an hour north, east, and west of Cincinnati as “up there”. Planet HIO, I guess.

That is so true. I lived around Cincinnati/Nky and have only been to Columbus once, I think.

And a recession, atp, is a best case scenario. If AI pops while we have this or a higher level of unemployment (real, not reported numbers) + inflation, a depression is not out of the question. A patron told me that a Fed Governor expected one in our nearer future.

Hope you have a gentle holiday.

I worked at a neighborhood library in sw Florida for the last two years. They tried to close it six years ago and again this year and the community stepped up and ran campaigns, so that ultimately it stayed open. The budget cuts have been extensive over many years, so eventually, some will close.

I will add the following: our students lack the research skills required to audit an LLM essay for errors. They don’t arrive on campus with these skills; we teach it to them over four long years. So throwing freshmen in the deep end and saying “swim your way to a shore of rectitude” is folly.

That is so cool. I would have loved that prompt.

After Harris having a chuckle with Lindsey Graham yesterday, today’s appropriate response is grounding.

It’s one of the ways I know to trust someone. The readiness to admit what we don’t know.
