I rarely see this kind of thing happen with other genres. It's always romance where people come in with 'original' ideas on how to 'fix' the genre and the ideas are never original.

It being P2P OFMD fic was my first assumption too, because that's often the case with other 'reskinned' romances like with Reylo, but the OFMD fans are both surprised and angry. That makes me doubt it's some established and wellknown ficwriter from the fandom.

In this particular case, I am not sure if it *is* a fic author pulling a fic and publishing it. It is the author's second book and her first book has zero connection to the fandom she is now promoting to. Maybe the author just saw a useful marketing hook
