I’m a writer who was recently laid off from my full time job and “replaced” by AI.

Spoiler alert, AI can’t produce quality content the way humans can, and any journalist worthy of the title would never submit anything without fact checking.

Fortunately, I’m available for hire! 😊

If this happened slowly, we could still trust e.g. BLS or Fed reporting to show the dire impact of eliminating financial regulation or laying off thousands of gov’t employees, thousands more contractors, and the knock-on layoffs from cutting funding. That’s why it’s fast. That’s why it’s a coup. /2

April 4th is when the BLS releases their Employment Situation report for March. It’s when we’ll really start to see the impact of all this chaos. If Elon gets inside BLS before then they could stop or alter the report. That’s the really scary scenario.

In his soul, Casey Newton believes these AI models are god-like geniuses capable of everything. And so seeing him disappointed every time he reviews an AI product is kind of enlightening. It show where AI *doesn’t* work. He’s like the tub of water you submerse a tire in to find where it leaks air.

Where have you worked where this is rewarded?! I now hear executives explicitly say the goal is to make big, unrealistic promises and that small, measurable improvements are a waste of time. Not even pretending anymore. When I try to do something modest but actually valuable it’s looked down on.

3. “Call out Trump and Musk’s actions for what they are—a coup, corruption, lining their own pockets at our expense.

Seriously, just growing a pair and calling things out would be an improvement. And keep saying it everywhere as loud as possible so people don’t forget.

2. Make an “alternative government” and a plan for re-instating services that are being dismantled. Something you can point to and say, “this is what you could have.” /2

1. Get rid of old guard dems. Even if they still hold elected positions, rubber room them, denounce them cut of campaign funds. /1

So all this ends in a vicious cycle whereby unpaid labor is a government-provided resource that Trump offers corporations in exchange for loyalty. The demand for that labor leads to more arrests of immigrants, enemies, and “others” with no due process under the flimsy pretense of deportation. /5

Trump’s other optics-driven policies like tariffs and condoning monopolies *will* cause inflation, at first from profiteering and then by labor shortages. Trump will offer a transactional solution— free labor from detainees in exchange for minimal price increases. /4

Many of these people can’t be deported because ICE can’t prove they are citizens of a specific country. Instead, these detainees will start piling up in internment camps without a day in court. Some will even be US. citizens. /3
