Check out “Flowers for Vera” in CNPS's fall issue of Flora. The 12-acres that make up Vera’s Sanctuary, a residential rehab program for survivors of sex trafficking, was converted to native plants. The final garden was completed in March 2025. Read more: bit.ly/3LFLq0Y

Amazing work by the Sugar Pine Foundation to preserve pine trees around Lake Tahoe currently threatened by invasive white pine blister rust. The Foundation finds resistant trees, grows their seeds, and plants them back out to improve forest resilience. Learn more at sugarpinefoundation.org/.

Shout out to the Ventura Land Trust as they protect, restore, and connect the community to nearly 4,000 acres in Ventura County! Their small but mighty team manages invasive species, converts trail edges to native habitat, and surveys for EDRR species.

Research shows that cheatgrass affects mule deer habitat selection in Wyoming, and it’s no surprise that they prefer native sagebrush to cheatgrass. Strategic management can help mule deer to persist in areas threatened by invasive grasses!

The 2025 ISP treatment season is underway! ISP has hired 15 seasonal biologists and field techs to boost staffing during the monitoring and treatment season and to help take on treatment.

Congratulations Susan Schwartz, president of Friends of Five Creeks, for receiving the 2025 Bay Nature Local Hero Award! Creeks. She has dedicated 27 years to nature in East Bay, much of it removing invasive weeds, hills to shoreline.

Shout out to the Irvine Ranch Conservancy thistle slayers. They've trekked to remote sites and risked tumbling down cactus-laden slopes to remove an estimated 13,000 artichoke thistle plants. This level of determination is inspiring!

Ever seen...or tried golden oyster mushrooms 🍄? The tasty, butter-colored species from Asia has been quickly spreading in the Great Lakes area and may be displacing native fungi. Recent observations have also been made in Alabama, Colorado, and Texas.

Another successful season of treating invasive sea lavender comes to an end in tidal marshes around San Francisco Bay. Great work and thank you to everyone working on this ongoing, large-scale project!
