I flew out of Boston Logan on the Friday before 9/11. Back then every airport had different security contractors. Checkpoint security was super chill. I was in 1st class that afternoon. We had steak, complete with a big ass steak knife. Saw the silhouette of the twin towers above the skyline.

This won't be a popular reply, but I've been flying for nearly 40 years, and I think much about what makes it suck these days are the people seemingly determined to make it as miserable as possible so they can tell everyone how miserable it was. Tell them about the old airports, Tom!

I like it, too. Sums up how I feel - I’ve read too much history to be fooled about the ‘good old days’? And no, growing up on a dirt road pushing a shitty mower all summer, with 3 TV channels that I had to go outside and turn the antenna to catch, was not ‘better times’. It sucked.

You make good points. One of the leaders of our company (ESOP) often goes into a "things are better than they have ever been before" talk, and his arguments are always right on. When someone does start to make a counter point, he says "imminent thermonuclear war...". It always inspires a pause...
