Even just having a veteran squad would fill that niche perfectly. Give them a few extra weapon options, some ability to make them stand out, put them as a support slot and sorted! It makes sense to have a unit like outside kasrkin, combat engineers and scions that would feel more ubiquitous

I get trying to streamline, but yeah, agreed, it makes sense that specialised units would exist in what essentially amounts to a ‘standard’ army.
