Finished Hwang Sok-Yong’s Mater 2-10 last week and I’m still buzzing.

It follows a working class Korean family over a century, through the rise and fall of fascist Imperial Japan, painting an intimate portrait of resistance.

But that’s like calling 100 Years of Solitude a story about a family.
