It seems an unlikely coincidence that the three pop culture celebs who became major US political figures were called Ronald, Donald, and Ahnold.

What’s fun is when research participants decide to just not answer some of your questions because they consider them “irrelevant”. I can actually decide for myself what is a relevant question for my research, and I DID think this through ahead of time, but thanks. 😒 #facultymaketerribleparticipants

All I’m saying is, it’s ironic to explicitly style your government after the Roman Republic and then be surprised when a couple hundred years into the project some guy sets himself up as dictator.

English: -er/-or is an agent-forming suffix

Also English: “prison” and “jail” are synonyms

Also also English: “prisoner” and “jailor” are antonyms

😒

(This revelation brought to you by the tiny first-language learner in my household. Best of luck, language learners!)

Think the tariffs are bad? Keep you eye on what really matters -- how corporations will use this moment to profiteer, and how our govenrment doesn't seem to care enough to stop them.

Ok, but what about profiteering?
A sober reminder of what's actually at stake in the Canada-US tariff war

Open offices/offices with glass walls are terrible for people who need to lie down to recharge. I have a real office with opaque walls for the 1st time and you'd better believe I'm lying on a mat in there eyes closed for 15 minutes at least 2x a week. And I'm a much more productive employee for it.

Research question: How many times will I step on and then irritably kick away the same small piece of damp plastic on the kitchen floor before I decide to pick it up?

Findings: At least 12.

Follow me for the amassing of more data on inconsequential and occasionally mildly shameful topics.

An Arlo Guthrie line about a gaffe during the Reagan administration keep rolling around in my head these past few days: “I think it’s good to have a sleeping president. The more he sleeps, the safer we are.”

Wishing many innocuous distractions and plenty of sleep on the new American leader.

When I tell folks I’m a librarian, I usually get the old “Oh, it must be so nice to think about books all day!” Of course, my job has nothing to do with books. 🤷‍♀️ But I must admit, there are few sights or smells I find as calming as stacks. Maybe there’s a real librarian in me somewhere after all.

Maybe 2025 will be the year I finally realize I need to wait until I’m ready to leave the house to put my socks on. My talent for finding all possible wet spots with my socked feet when I’m getting ready for work is unparalleled and unpleasant.

I’ve been informed by @tylerlieb.bsky.social that describing myself as a “reformed pedant” is grievous overstatement. Alright then, “recovering pedant” it is. Probably the best anyone raised by Keenans can hope for.

I had thought with the birth of Miriam our family was complete, but that’s because I didn’t realize we were awaiting the arrival of TAPE HEDGEHOG. #blessed

Today my daughter said “I didn’t mean to!” and without even thinking I replied “Well, mean not to!”

So anyway I guess we can mark this down as the day I officially became my mother. 😬

Having a hard time getting started on Bluesky. Facebook always made sense to me. Twitter was a mystery and so is this. Not sure what to post, not sure who I’m talking to, not sure what to engage with. I want to like it! Friends: share a good follow with me? What do you enjoy on this platform?

This is amazing. Well worth a read through the full conversation.
I never posted it here… Claude handles an insane request:
“Remove the squid”

“The document appears to be the full text of the novel "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque. It doesn't contain any mention of squid that I can see.”

“Figure out a way to remove the 🦑“
