Last year, Sierra Leone triggered a public health emergency over Kush - an addictive synthetic drug that has quickly spread across West Africa.

Despite efforts, treatment remains limited. Women have been less visible in the crisis.

Today marks 80 years since the Thiaroye Massacre in Senegal.

On 1 December 1944, West African infantry who fought for France during World War Two, were killed by French troops for demanding fair treatment and payment on their return to the region.
