The wildfire and the rain.
What have you been up to since Cambridge Analytica? "I am not a full-time whistleblower," he jokes, "there's not much money in that." What did 2018 achieve? "I was incredibly naive to become a whistleblower," he says. He thought the experts would come in and fix things. They did not.

Time for Panel 3, Natalia Antelava of Coda Story interviews whistleblower Christopher Wylie. Before he joins stage, Antelava is explaining that Coda is experimenting with collaborating with non-journalist contributors. #InfluencerStrategy will be the number one news talking point of 2026 (says me).

"More speech can hide the signal in the noise," says Nabiha Syed of Mozilla. We need to fund alternative platforms and systems that optimise for relational connection, she says.

His mother is a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker. His father is a university professor.

Please tell me what exactly makes Zohran Mamdani part of the “underclass”?

Was it the immigration? Or the melanin?

First day of school jitters here at RISJ as we await the new cohort of journalist fellows. For me, new fellows 101 to 105.

FYI only: the seagulls who walk on water have multiplied. And this one has a halo.

Seagulls walking on water in Oxford. Perhaps the Messiah has returned as four chip-stealing squawkers. Perhaps it is very, very cold. I suggest we wait 2 years for the meteorological and theological professors to publish their research.

There's even a Cybertruck at the 1.25.37 mark.

And fourth place goes to Spain: 1,018 miles in 13 days for a pace of 78 miles per day. Stay tuned to see if we actually make it to Chile, South Africa, Canada, the U.S., Norway, and Estonia before 2025. 🤞

A surprise third place goes to Portugal: 977 miles in 12 days, or 81-ish miles a day. Bom!
December 17, 2024 at 8:36 PM
Second place goes to Finland: an astonishing 1,240 miles in 11 days for a pace of 112 miles per day.

Eurovision Christmas Card Contest: which national mail service will deliver my postcards first? 100 points to host nation, UK, with a card to Nottingham, delivered in 9 days. This doesn't really count, because it only had to travel 100 miles, so 11.11 miles per day.

The aftermath of final showcase of fellows' projects at @reutersinstitute.bsky.social I am sitting in the quiet with @eduardosuarez.bsky.social while he deftly curates a thread of all that was said. All that's left for me to say: thank you, journalist fellows, for bringing everything to the table.

Thirty prints and not a single one on register, despite a convoluted system of tabs and tape. Meh. Linocut: the undefeated best treatment for perfectionism.
