Not that all redesign falls into this! There are plenty of bad faith/malicious actors, and plenty of redesigners who do great work and have awesome ideas, but I think its one part of why redesign has a somewhat contentious reputation within different art circles.

Part of this tendency seems to be that more popular artists might do a character that they know less about beyond whats easily available due to popularity. But in changing critical design elements without understanding, it causes people to feel as though the redesign might “miss the point” of the OG
