CAIR-Philadelphia mourns the passing of Rabbi Arthur Ocean Waskow, a steadfast friend, partner, and moral voice for justice. His life’s work embodied the courage to speak truth, the compassion to build bridges, and the faith to envision a world transformed by love and equity.

His life’s work embodied the courage to speak truth, the compassion to build bridges, and the faith to envision a world transformed by love and equity. We are deeply grateful for Rabbi Arthur’s unwavering support and his leadership in movements that demanded not only reform, but radical change—change rooted in dignity, solidarity, and shared humanity. His memory will continue to inspire all who strive for a just and compassionate world. We send our condolences to Rabbi Phyllis Berman and the Shalom Center community; may his legacy be a charge to continue the work he so boldly advanced. — The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Philadelphia Chapter The funeral will be held on Wednesday October 22, 2025, at 12pm ET at Mishkan Shalom in Philadelphia (4101 Freeland Ave). Summer Lee as co-sponsors of H.R. 3565, also known as the Block the Bombs Act. This resolution is the first-ever House legislation aimed at blocking the selling, transferring, or exporting of U.S. weapons to arm Israel's ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced starvation of Palestinians in Gaza. They are among the growing number of House Democrats who have signed on to the resolution since June 2025. CAIR-Pennsylvania welcomes Reps. Lee, Dean, and Scanlon’s principled stance against arming genocide and calls on all Pennsylvania and Delaware representatives to follow suit and support H.R. 3565.

Yesterday, 27 Senators, including Delaware’s Lisa Blunt Rochester, voted to block arms shipments to the Israeli government – a historic sign of progress. This vote was the first time a majority of the Senate Democratic Caucus supported stopping offensive arms transfers to Israel, signaling a major shift in congressional sentiment that mirrors the will of the American public. On the flip side, 68 senators, including Pennsylvania Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick, and Delaware Senator Chris Coons, voted to continue sending bombs and rifles to fuel genocide, ethnic cleansing, and mass starvation in Gaza and the West Bank. CAIR’s 2025 August Recess Toolkit (pa.cair.com/recess-toolkit) identifies a number of key legislative concerns from protecting free speech to blocking U.S. weapons transfers to Israel as top policy priorities. Bosnian Serb forces, under the leadership of General Ratko Mladić aimed at erasing the Bosniak Muslim population from parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to create a “Greater Serbia.” Muslim women grieving among small coffins, overlaid text: 30 years on, we honor the victims of Srebrenica, and we stand in solidarity with our Bosniak brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and around the world. Their memory is a reminder to recognize the patterns of dehumanization, propaganda, and silence that lead to mass atrocities and to resist before it’s too late.
