The sunset in New York City tonight was one of the loveliest I’ve ever seen. I’m just saying.

I really don’t think MAGA Republicans understand what will happen to their own lives (as well as the lives they disdain) if/when America becomes a militarized police state like Northern Ireland was during the Troubles.

Now that we have an American pope I want to ask again, what has happened to Andry José Hernández Romero? He’s not a gang member he’s a gay makeup artist and he should be returned to us - and to his own life here - stat.

You rarely see a man photographed in the nadir of his life but I think Marco Rubio was captured in one today. Ironically enough it looks Chekhovian.

There’s big ‘Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown’ energy off this headline.

It’s the eve of Imbolc (the Irish celebration) and I’m busy cleaning my home and setting my intentions for the arrival of Spring. If you have the bandwidth, I heartily recommend it.

City Chemist on Graham Avenue in Williamsburg is the best run, professional (and friendly) pharmacy I’ve been to. Sadly, last night it was gutted by fire.

If there’s a GoFund me to help them restore or move operations nearby I’d be happy to donate - it’s run by very good hard working people.

It was 28°F when Barack Obama was sworn in at noon on January 20, 2009. I was there and it was Baltic. It was also packed to capacity as far as the eye could see.

It sounds like Trump’s afraid the crowds will be small. He fears the empty mall pictures. Narcissistic injuries are his Kryptonite.

I saw Gypsy on Broadway last night and Audra McDonald’s turn as Mama Rose has the stuff of legend around it, like those old photos you see of Chita and Gwen killing it in Chicago. But the supporting cast was also superb. The unrequited love scene with Louise and Tulsa absolutely destroyed me.

I finally caught Wicked. It’s going to do LGBT kids in unsupportive families a world of good for many years to come. The subtext was text and the film was the stronger for it. In fact all the queer coded rites of passage were so keenly observed I had trouble sleeping after it.

As my tote bag from the ABBA museum in Stockholm says, may you ‘be dancing once again‘ and ‘sing a new song’ in 2025, Chiquitita.

If you’re looking for a new show ‘Bad Sisters’ on Apple TV and Prime is unusually well written and directed, compulsively watchable and features a top tier cast of actresses at the top of their game. It’s by turns thrilling, hilarious, furious, fun. Almodovar by way of Ireland believe it or not.

Goldfrapp are my favorite band of this century and it’s not even close. What a catalogue: it’s like the best film, city, day and lover all happening at the same time. They’re transcendent.
