James Moore lived in Thompson’s Station, Williamson County, TN. He died there in 1893. No headstone has been located for him. He has descendants who still live in the area today. Franklin’s Mayor Ken Moore sponsored his brick paver in Veterans Park. www.slavestosoldiers.org/home/how-to-...

Gideon McLemore was born in Williamson County and had a brother Thomas who served in the 15th US Colored Infantry and died of smallpox at the end of the War. Gideon McLemore died in Nashville in 1892. No headstone or grave for him has been located.

Following Alfred McKay's release from Mobile he returned to the 111th and helped build the Stones River National Cemetery in Murfreesboro. Postwar he lived on John Hunter's farm on Carter's Creek Pike in Williamson County where he filed for a pension. He died in 1915 and no grave has been located.

They, along with many other men from the regiment, were sent to Mobile, Alabama, and put to work in a labor camp where they were rescued by US forces at the close of the war the following spring.

Among the men of the 15th USCI were many soldiers who had worked first as laborers to build Fort Granger in Franklin, TN before enlisting in the US Army. At least 24 members of the 15th were from Williamson County, TN.
