He took enough damage that it was over half his HP, but the rest of the party had to stop him from trying again.

Well, one of them decided they wanted to try and sync and attune to it. I let him, but he rolled a Natural 1 (he would've been rejected regardless, but now he just got refused.)

Anyway, that's how you get a 350 pound Warforged Warlock sailing back 50 feet and getting buried in a sand dune.

I was DMing a session for my players, and they had just come across a massive hovering anomaly that was shooting off streaks of raw magic and arcane force; it was in the shape of some distorted, massive magic tome; taller than a skyscraper.
