An absolutely essential read about an overlooked leader of the Civil Rights Movement. I’d learned a lot about Miss Ella Baker from my other reading, but always as a secondary character. This book shows just how primary she was and how much she was doing in the background.

Highly recommended.

PUP and Jeff Rosenstock are best friend bands who just came together like Voltron to be Double Band. Played some of each band’s tunes and closed with this: Alanis Morrisette’s “You Outta Know.” Tremendous.

I’ve sung Wonderwall with thousands of friends many times after Loons wins. This was the first time I got to do it with the Gallaghers.

Way, way too many ManCity shirts in this place.

Trent Reznor has still got it. It’s so hard to really rock an arena show, but Nine Inch Nails made it look easy last night. And they did it with just some lights and fabric. Simple but super cool.

Since people are mentioning the 2 year anniversary of the Montgomery river brawl, here’s when I visited the site that October.

Side note, but people should visit Montgomery. The Equal Justice Initiative alone is very, very worth the trip, but there’s so much more history there.

Pixies really do just have buckets of great tunes. Wish Kim Deal was there, but still such a fantastic show.

Scowl are approaching “must see whenever in town” territory for me. They put on such a fun, energetic show.

This headline feels like an Abbott & Costello bit.

Well that was a fun (and exhausting) weekend. After Green Day the boy said “I will never see a better show.” It really was a fantastic set, but I assured him he would someday see one better. In the meantime the search for a better one is half the fun.

The boy’s first festival. Minnesota Yacht Club. Currently Motion City Soundtrack with Fall Out Boy’s lead singer filling in for a sick Justin Pierre on vocals.

That was beneficial for my mental health. 10s of thousands of Minnesotans on this difficult day.

RIP to the Hortmans and my thoughts with the Hoffmans.

For the second year in a row a fawn was hiding in our yard when we took Ziggy the cat outside and a chase ensued. Looks like fawn is recovered from the gray terror.

My Spurs finally win a trophy and they start getting all cheeky in kit release videos. I love it.

Just please don’t actually feed the squad lasagna. Ever.

Found a Hooded Merganser mama trying to get out of our yard with a whole mess of chicks following her. 13 I think?

Was able to open the gate when they went searching elsewhere so now they can get to the lake.

Possible the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
