Finished For Us, the Living. While I know characters didn't have alot of depth, I did enjoy the lectures. I'm hanging on to this for a little while just to see how accurately Heinlein predicted society after Neo-Puritanism took over the nation. #booksky

Finished Yellowface last night.
I appreciated the views the author wrote regarding cultural appropriation and history. But I just hated June so much.
There were alot of moments where I felt bad for her, but I could not stand the character. She's a terrible friend for one (1/2)

I've finally got a little time to recreationally read and starting off with Yellowface.
I loved Babel, and Yellowface seemed like it'd be an interesting story and perspective.
As a character, I hate June so much so far. But I do love what Kuang is doing with the story and different issues in it.

Merrie Monarch finds pt 2.
1. Kapaemahu is the legend of 4 māhu who came here with great healing abilities. 4 stones were placed at Waikīkī in their memory
2. The epic of Hiʻiakaikapoliopele is a more detailed story of Hiʻiaka and her journey to bring Lohiʻau to Pele.

Merrie Monarch finds Pt.1! Picked up some books for our house.
1. Place Names of Hawaiʻi is more than just a list of locations, it also gives a brief history of the location and its original name when applicable.

I didn't get to post anything last night. But this week is the Merrie Monarch festival, the big hula competition that takes place in my hometown. Tonight hula hālau (groups) perform in the ancient (kahiko) style

AFAIK there's no connection between Huxley and carrots, I just wanted to read and clear space in the fridge
Carrot juice and spices with a topping of cream and just enough lemon juice and salt to imitate the flavor of cream cheese frosting.

Finishing this book, and decided I need a cinnamon roll to go with it. Figured, why not make myself a nice drink too to go with the roll and the book: coffee with an almond cream topping and dark chocolate shavings.

Mentally been having a rough month, finally got one day to take care of myself and relax. Started off with a nice long soak w/ candles and scrub, a nice drink, and hoping to finish this book. I'm already on Phaedrus right now.

Happy International Women's Day everyone! Relevant reads in my overflowing TBR shelf includes a book by Noenoe Silva on reconstructing Hawaiian history in our voices and views. And also Boudica, a leader in the Celtic Briton revolt against the Romans.

Currently trying to figure out if my next read is gonna be Propagande or Perennial Philosophy. Maybe I'll just go with both lol

Just finished The Use of Pleasure. I thought it was interesting that multiple Greek philosophers mainly problematized sex and sexuality in terms of moderation: how sophrosyne (moderation) was something to embody in everything from self and city governance to sex and other pleasures.
