American election worker here: what is a scrutinieer?

I work as an election volunteer in Michigan. I've seen all parts of the election system within our city. It's extremely secure. But there are many idiots who refuse to believe that, even though they could work an election and see for themselves. Conspiracies are more attractive than the real truth.

I had one while hospitalized for what turned out to be viral encephalitis. I warned the tech I was allergic to the iodine contrast and it would make puke. He told me I was making that up and didn't know what I was talking about. 5 minutes later I put my entire breakfast into his shoes.

This wasn't funny.
