For anyone wondering how or why Pol Pot murdered 1/4 of Cambodia’s population, it was this. The Khmer Rouge categorised everyone as “New People” (city folk) and “Old People” (rural), and only the Old Peoples were true Khmer.

Thanks. It didn’t really occur to me until reading this that cinematic doesn’t actually equate to realistic in the sense of feeling that what I’m watching is somehow more “real”, even if it is a lot more carefully engineered. It certainly doesn’t make it more engaging.
