Thanksgiving is just where we pregame familial conflict before Christmas

As a writer who's read a lot of diverse fiction, I try to include diversity in my fiction, but I feel like I'm stealing a culture if I have it in my books, even with deep research, since I'm someone who isn't a part of those spaces. What do you consider to be appropriate representation?
