Though, I suppose culturally every country's development studios have their own backgrounds and inspirations that they bring into their art, and it's kinda neat. I don't think there's any malice behind the term JRPG (at least not from most of the industry's consumers).

I guess. Those are just the traditional examples that came to mind, but obviously game genres today are a lot more fluid and melded together.

Listen, I'm not trying to say it didn't deserve GOTY, what I'm saying is that "indie" needs to be given an actual definition. We've abandoned this conversation too many times, and now actual small indie games are being overlooked because of it.

Fair enough. But when your credits is like 7 minutes long and you outsource a ton of roles and your budget is "A little under 10 million" and your core team is comprised partly of former AAA devs, how can you consider yourself indie?
