I wrote 'Shadows' to address the need to compare pain and concerns amongst members of our community.
We need to stand together and hold one another up, not hold our pain above those we think have not earned the right to complain.
Let us not dismiss the pain of others, but rather stand tall together.
A poem entitled 'Shadows'. Pain comes in many shapes, and many forms, merged and altered. The trigger one of loss, fear, weapons of solid form, and that of spoken word. My pain is not lessened by yours. Nor does your pain take away from that which I suffer. I am hidden not by the shadow of grief, nor the loss of another. Struggles not my own, tower not over mine for we stand not in competition, rather as humans amidst battles unknown, each in need of support. To be recognised, to be understood. Is that not what all want? A shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen? Cry out not for more attention, nor a higher step upon a pedestal, neither you nor I desire. For empathy is that which we crave. Arms spread wide, readily available to all, bearing the shadow of need.

One of my first poems written exploring mental health and the doubts many experience throughout life.
A poem entitled 'Broken' by C.M. Townsend. I lay discarded. Shattered by words piercing the fragile armour I call skin. I lay abandoned. Tossed aside for I offer no use, no meaning, no reason to be kept. I lay here an empty shell of what once was. Am I broken?
