I feel like this reflects flaws in the healthcare system more than AI itself. This unempathetic policy of a pre-determined recovery timeline seems to help only the insurance companies, what does AI have to do with it? Couldn't a human make the same estimate, causing the same negative consequence?

Never was a fan of this film. I feel the same way about the novel - opulent chatter with a pessimistic worldview that is mostly pointless.
