Let me share some margin notes from Shiver Me with you— yes confirming I talk to myself in the third person and with gusto (warning: second pic, slight, slight spoilers for the pirate books)

A paperback book lies on sandstone! It’s called Shiver Me, by Vermillion, and it features a sort of illustration-y couple embracing as if underwater in artistic greens and blues. They’re definitely drowning but we know they’ll be alright. “Drowning is only the beginning” reads the line on the lower left. A cream page from Shiver Me, a romance novel. It’s first page of the first page chapter reads “1 CONNOR The Wretched Lady rolled under my boots, her decks held together with pitch and the last of my crew's goodwill. Her hull sliced through the waves toward a curious prize. Another ship. A merchantman, almost unheard of in these parts. She was small but polished, with crisp new sails and shining wood. Fat as an anchovy, I guessed, with a belly full of riches. Suspicious. Perhaps I should have left the strange ship to the wind and water. As it was, I had little choice in the matter. Here we would fight. My ship had spent too long waiting around, hidden outside Sanctuary's forbidding port in case the damned gates opened and we had a chance to get our captain back. We'd missed it-if the scant opportunity to breach its well-guarded walls had ever appeared forfeiting our usual summertime raiding and trading. The Wretched Lady was desperate. Salivating, Starving. And what had we run across? A meal. The only such morsel in these waters for ages. Twenty years at least since Sanctuary had slammed its gates shut against the seas and its neighbors, choosing to speak with galleons full of guns instead.”

I didn’t know everyone would be so ready to fight over those fake one stars I made for my characters SO as a peace offering accept this REAL five star review of Shiver Me from a reader (@/crystallreads) on insta.

So cool to have a stranger really GET what I was trying to do with the novel.
