I once asked a guy in his early twenties why he shaved his underarms and legs and he responded “Well society expects women to do it, so it seems fair.” Astonishing that the fix to unfair expectations on women would be to just add more expectations to men.

I'd argue though that there is a material shortage of *quality* housing. No one should have to live in a shit hole that is falling apart. We fix that by replacing housing stock!

But I think it's important to keep context - living alone is wildly new and in almost every country in the world seen as a luxury. I think we should pursue a society in which it's feasible, but let's be honest that this is a new thing for humans to want as a minimum.

Yeah - and I agree housing is too expensive. We should be building more of it in anyway that we can. You know who hates more housing? Existing landlord! We should do everything we can to reduce costs and increase what folks make by fighting for the rights of workers.

Don't love this analysis - both rent and transport seem very very high. I spend less than that in a city of similar CoL to NC. Seems like it's based on owning a new car and living alone in a 1 bedroom? Seems like having a roommate and a used car are closer to what we might call a living wage.

I never said that. There is a lot of suffering that exists outside of folks control. I think we should tax people like me a lot more and redistribute that money to folks who are suffering. I vote that way and will continue to do so.
