Congrats @handsupfortrad.bsky.social on another fabulous celebration of our trad scene. Folk were asking about my lapel last night: a hairst knot, traditional straw work made by Elaine Lindsay. Bothy loons wore something similar when seeking a fee. A wee nod to my pal, the late Joe Aitken. #NaTrads

Not really. Around £6k of that is pump + tank which is a more advanced bit of kit than a standard tank. Just over a week's labour for 2-3 guys to install, inc upgrading pipework + around half of our radiators. In Scotland you get a 0% loan for the amount over the grant, costs us £75 a month.

30/ Brian sent me a Google Maps pin of the location in South Africa, but I'll maintain his privacy. Seems pretty convincing to me. But for good measure, I took both photos & overlaid them in Photoshop (as best as is possible, given the slight persective changes). Seems legit, no?
November 13, 2024 at 10:06 AM
24/ He sent me this.
November 13, 2024 at 10:03 AM
22/ Again I've floated some of this on the original Twitter thread, but, understandably, people can't believe that
@nationaltrust.bsky.social would have made such an error.
So I tagged the NT and Brian on the FB post and asked.
November 13, 2024 at 10:02 AM
17/ It's dated November 2013 (remember the NT story was August 2015). It is apparently a heart made for his wife, Leila. The image [in June 2020] only has 18 likes, 3 shares and 10 comments.
November 13, 2024 at 9:59 AM
13/ Then we meet Brian Fanner.

Brian says in reply to the NT FB post (some 16 weeks ago, which puts us around the time of the Feb 2020
@mymodernmet.bsky.social story, when perhaps Brian became aware of it circulating again):

"I made this."

Although, Dana doesn't appear to believe him.
November 13, 2024 at 9:55 AM
12/ Then someone queries the image on the NT FB post, which has been shared several thousand times since 2015.
NT doubles down, or at least their social media person on duty that day does. They claim it was made by their own bees at the castle. The "real deal".
November 13, 2024 at 9:54 AM
10/ The NT Facebook caption [in 2020] asks people if they have ever seen anything so beautiful. It also says their bees at Bodiam Castle have been busy making honey for their shop. One *could*, therefore, interpret this honeycomb as having been done by their bees.
November 13, 2024 at 9:53 AM
9/ Then someone posts a link in the Twitter thread to a
@nationaltrust.bsky.social story from August 2015. It was picked up again in Feb 2020 by @mymodernmet.bsky.social
& circulated online for a few weeks. facebook.com/nationaltrus...
[Editor's note: since 2020, now updated w/ accurate caption!]

3/ That beekeeper heart honeycomb image. A thread.

Morning @NetworkRailSCOT @ScotRail, any info on what the works are that mean Drem station car park is half closed? Been like this for a couple of weeks and not seeing much work progressing. Has a knock on effect with capacity at Longniddry too.

Going by the ability to secure a decent A-Board, @LynJardineSNP is the only candidate left standing in Athelstaneford 😅 #VotedSNP

Great to be in Paris with @dauvitf on behalf of @tracscot at @UNESCO to see UK have a seat at the Intangible Cultural Heritage table for the first time officially with the Convention in force. @DCMS @culturescotgov @AngusRobertson

Including highland dancing competitions, @TradDanceScot 😊

Practising what I preach! Local Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in the form of summer town galas around East Lothian - today's parade in East Linton.
November 18, 2024 at 9:22 PM
Chuckled as I dandered through East Linton today, thinking on election fever, manifestos and parties verbally tearing lumps out of each other in

The criminally under-recognised national singing treasure, Rod Paterson, of Jock Tamson's Bairns, The Easy Club, and Ceolbeg, passed away this morning. An iconic voice, who did a power of work for our Scots song heritage. RIP.

Any chance @NetworkRailSCOT @scotrail that the car park at #Drem could be sorted now that the dates have passed? Such small capacity as it is, this is something like a fifth of spaces.
November 18, 2024 at 9:23 PM
Pals around Ainster and the East Neuk, well worth looking in on this event today organised by @scotfishmuseum for @sngaidhlig, looking at the songs Gaelic speaking herring gutters brought with them round the coasts.

This past year, a @malinkyfolk song in which I have a 20% writer credit was played over 522,000 times. How much should I get for that? What other product can you access 522,000 times and the creator receives next to nothing? #brokenrecord

Great to finally see @thunderstruckgd at @ScotStoryCentre, a phenomenal piece of theatre giving insight into genius of Gordon Duncan, but also darker side of the piping world. The bold @brianjaffa stepped up to volunteer for the practice chanter scene 😄. A vital piece of work 👏
