I know nothing at all about #rocks but my favorite dorky dad activity is to go about halfway out in the river and dig down under the surface and find what I think are cool rocks.

Renovating my old clapboard house. Was hoping to find some old coins. No luck so far but found this calendar from 1916. Pretty cool

New type of running today. Wanted to be with my boys but they wanted to skate. So I ran 50 laps around this little skate park. In crocs. It was not well thought out. Massive blisters. Haha!

Went up Mt Cole in #Virginia to watch the sunset with the wildfire smoke making filters. Could not capture the true beauty. The sun was purple, pink, and yellow.

2 sides of the storm. Love the mountains bathed in sunlight contrasting the impending rain overhead.

Today my sons completed a central PA rite of passage for them. Climbing to the top of the 1000 Steps outside Mount Union, PA. Quarry workers used to climb those steps every day to get to work. One of my favorite views any where. Worth the climb.

#ThickTrunkTuesday. This is a massive Sycamore on the farm I grew up on. Less than 50 feet from her is the remains of the Pennsylvania Canal. Spread throughout the fields surrounding her are countless Native American artifacts. The stories she could tell…

Not really #trailrunning. More gravel. When this trail opened I said I was gonna do this all the time. But the tunnel makes my gps go wonky and I hate that.

Cheating because my #stunday photo was from a hike I did with my boys yesterday. Mount Cole in VA. Was an awesome hike and my boys did great but still getting the ticks off.

Which there was a way to share how amazing the trail smells while out #trailrunning with all these beautiful #flowers blooming.

I needed the #mountains so bad that I could feel it in my throat on my drive to the trail. Therapeutic.

Running back down the mountain and come across a fresh pile of bear scat and then get into town and all the neighborhood dogs are going nuts. Think I just missed crossing paths with Mr. Bear.

I love a distant turn while #traileunning. What’s going to be around the turn? A bear? Coyote? Deer or turkeys? Nothing but trees and the trail to keep pushing myself on? Three different trail runs around the turn was a naked person. Haha!

Still learning my ways around the small town in #applachia. Pictures don’t do this little league field justice. Even my son that doesn’t like baseball wanted to play Also, it had such a bear feel that I was shocked we didn’t see a bear.

Not particularly religious these days but went on a diet for Lent and dropped 30 pounds. I’ll be back on the diet tomorrow but today…I’m eating every morsel of this monster.

I spend a lot of time #trailrunning in the woods. Today I ended up out somewhere in Allegheny County, VA. Found this thicket of new growth, at least 10-15 acres. Pictures don’t do justice. Never seen woods this thick.

This trail was my baby before I got divorced. I logged countless miles on her. Gentle 6 miles out and back with 500 ft elevation. I cleared the shrubs, cut trees that had fallen, and ran my weed eater. Haven’t been there in a while. Glad someone is taking care of her.

Went for a nice run in the rolling ridges and hills of where I grew up in Central PA tonight. Got done and realized I had done a “treadmill” run on my #Garmin so it didn’t track my elevation. Nooooo!!!

One more from my run today on #stunday
March 16, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Not really #stunday worthy but the best pic I could get on my #trailrunning today. Went out for what I was planning on being a flat-ish run and ended up hitting a mountain. Welp. Climbed that mountain.

A breezy evening in the mid 60’s as a nearly full moon rises over the Appalachians can make you just for a few moments forget about all the chaos in the world.

Ran to the top of a #mountain today. You can just make out the glint of the roofs of my town down below. I do love a turn and burn down a mountain.
