"I wish my colleagues all the best," said current and outgoing Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler. "It has been my honor to serve as chief justice for the last four years."

Ziegler will remain on the court, with her term running until 2027.

Her retirement sparked the open contest between Brad Schimel and Justice-elect Susan Crawford.

Waukesha County leads the way in terms of additional raw votes cast so far:

- 8,343 more than in 2023 at this point (25,105 total returned so far)
- 7, 382 increase in Dane County (28,823 total)
- 6,846 increase in Milwaukee County (28,006 total)
