Was getting tired of the SRS algo in Anki and just decided to order a nice set of flashcards for JLPT N3 review. Found a complete set that covers N5 to N1. It’s funny how much the N1 box looks the the boss mode of the box.

Finally having some plumbing pros fix a long standing tree root sewage line issue that has plagued us for years. Every ~2 years they would have to come out and hydrocut the sewer line to sweep out the roots that snuck in. Feels awesome to finally get this dealt with for good.

Fun weekend project. Finally got around to putting up sound proofing foam around my desk to cut back on wall reflections when recording audio. Co-worker is recording some narration here tomorrow so it forced me to get the project done lol.

Not every day I get to make an old-taku "お前はもう死んでいる" meme reference in a code review. And it actually fits for once in the context of the bug! I suspect I might be the only one that gets the reference though and am now feeling old. 😿

Was surprised to see a VirtualBoy here at #prge in a hard plastic case. @straycatalyst.bsky.social helped me find a virtual boy in a previous trip to Osaka, but mine was in a simple cardboard box. Turns out these were rental units for video stores. Had no idea this was a thing!

Testing out some AC Christmas light controllers from HolidayCoro. Finally replacing the homebrew Renard controllers we’ve been using for years as they were start to get a bit squirrelly.

Trying out making carnitas for the first time tonight. Was surprised how much juice came out of the pork in the Dutch oven (start led with just the juice of a few oranges on the pot). Wishing I had left the pork for another 30min to slow cook, but over all tasting pretty darn good!

Turns out half of perf optimization in Unreal is just finding all the static meshes that have dynamic collision turned on that someone forgot to unset.

Finally got around to getting frames for the art I bought at AniRevo and Pax. I always forget how expensive frames can be, often far exceeding the cost of the art itself.

Of course when I fat-finger a Ctrl-S and insert a random 's' in a middle of source file right before check in, it has to be in a shared library across projects 🤦♂️. Watching build failure messages light up Slack like a Christmas tree.

The “Art of Nintendo Power” at PAX was a glorious nostalgia bomb. I vividly remember that Mega Man cover art and had no idea it came from diorama props. Super cute seeing the fan letter illustrations too. @straycatalyst.bsky.social and I got a Gameboy Camera photo at the end of the exhibit.

I can’t get over how gorgeous the waterfront is next to the Vancouver convention center. Ended up grabbing a beer and watching the sunset while waiting for some late evening panels at Anirevo.
