I teach history and study Brazil

And I want to see fewer cat photos!
What a beautiful, lucid, moving letter. Thank you to Jason for writing it.

Same thing--I love Speed, can watch it over and over, but I wouldn't insist it's his best film.

I was recently awake during surgery. This is worse.

Where do you start? With the number of people living in severe poverty during those years? The completely inaccurate time-line of tariffs? Or the absolutely insane reference to transgender operations?
You couldn't make this up.

What an idiotic claim. Matters of fact can't be plagiarized, and the wording is so anodyne as to eliminate any meaningful issue of plagiarism.

I don't think he'd be worse. He's a rank opportunist, not enormously wealthy, and nobody really likes him. So I don't see him wreaking the kind of havoc that the TFFG or Elonazi can. He'd be awful but not worse.

It may be even more bizarre that he misspelled his son's name. And why the hell is Melania taking Barron to a concert? He's 18 and a college student.

It's the end of a minimally decent society if murder becomes an acceptable way to address social problems. So I have to say that a long sentence would be justified. But I am opposed to life sentences for all but the most heinous crimes, and this isn't one of those.

Do I think the Democrats could have and should have done more to improve the material conditions for lower income Americans (note my refusal to use the phrase "working class")? Do I think that would have allowed them to defeat Trump? No, I don't.
December 6, 2024 at 12:52 AM
The only conclusion I can come to is that it's not the pain the left likes to associate with the historical working class.

It is undeniable that some Americans are struggling, but they are mainly people who were struggling during the Trump years as well. And many, especially those who identify as brown or Black, didn't vote for Trump. So, what "pain" were liberal pundits ignoring? What "pain" was Trump acknowledging?
