It was a crazy number of ticks. I realized it was bad early in my hike so I kept count. Fortunately none were ever able to attach!

It all happened very fast. I took a couple shots of the cormorant holding on to its perch. Then I noticed it lean forward which I thought meant it was preparing to take flight. I trained my camera on it waiting for the moment but got this shot instead. Made me laugh at myself.
