Mountain biking piscator that likes space stuff (except space Karen)
I'm quite partial to pub quizzes, beer, sci-fi & horror movies and outdoors type stuff.
Been a while! Finally managed to get a glimpse of comet Lemmon during a break in the clouds, the weather here has been terrible for ages! Bit of a rushed bodge photo as wasn't expecting the opportunity, just grateful I got a glimpse as doubt I'll be around in 1300 years when it comes back again!

Back from a fishing holiday. Not the greatest year as fish were in spawning limbo, but did manage to get some milky way shots in during the 1 clear night we had.

1 year ago today I finally got to see Aurora Borealis, and in my home town! It's quite rare to see it here, and usually just a faint glow on the northern horizon only visible by camera, but this one was so crazy you could see it in all directions by eye, the photo with the pub is facing South West!

11+ mile walk at the weekend incorporating my syndicate water so I could eye up some spots for Easter. Legs still stiff as boards 2 days later, getting too old for this! On the bright side I found a good 20+ fish all in one area, so have a starting point...

Little jolly out on the stumpy. Tail wind all the way here so going to be a bitch on the way back 😬

Had this small jack pike out this morning, caught a burbot live bait.

Today's 30% ish solar eclipse. Thankfully the cloud cleared just as it started!

Solar eclipse has started. Only gets to about 30% where I am.
Sorry for janky photo and f a photo, only way of have of sharing without disturbing the camera.

Any UK TV licence legal wizards on here? I have a very specific question that none of the internet seems to want to answer regarding watching live TV on mobile devices...

In April 2020, during COVID lockdown in the UK, I was fortunate enough for my back garden to fall within the viewing line of a solar transit of the ISS. The window of opportunity was tiny at about 3/4 of a second. Thankfully I pressed the shutter release at the right time, and captured 4 images.

I love people who upon first hearing about the Dunning-Kruger effect go "Ahh, everything makes sense now that I fully understand cognitive bias"...

Musk & Trump (the mumps) have convinced their idiot base that the UK no longer has free speech, that we lock everyone up who doesn't agree with the current prime minister, like some kind of dictatorship.

Trump also recently posted this...

Anyone else play wordle, read the bot analysis ripping into your guesses telling you how crap they were, then say to yourself "Still beat you though didn't I you AI twat" when you find out the bot took more attempts? No? Just me?

One from a few years ago, just 15oz off the UK record at 20lb 6oz. Was convinced it'd break it the following year as had caught it every year for 6 years around a pound heavier than the previous, but sadly never saw it again after this one.
BG swapped to protect the venue @ clubs request.

First day fishing in forever. Didn't catch anything but the cold today, but was nice to get some fresh air for a few hours. The sun even made a brief appearance through the cloud as it was setting over the Severn bridges, so here's the obligatory sunset photo!

Merry Crimbo for those who celebrate.
Let us take a minute to remember the true meaning of xmas, the birth of our lord and saviour, Sir Isaac Newton (well, kind of), who invented gravity, without which we'd all be floating off into space.

That's work done for 2024. I'd go to the local pub to celebrate but there aren't any anymore. Going to be a fairly dry Xmas this year!

Andromeda again, but this time with a skywatcher star adventurer for tracking. Same camera as before, but with the canon 70-300 IS ii @ 300mm F5.6.

61 x 60s subs, post processing done mostly for free with dss, gimp and luminar 3
December 10, 2024 at 11:18 AM
This fuzzy blob was my first ever attempt at the Andromeda galaxy. Taken with a canon 700d and sigma 105mm macro.
I didn't have any tracking ability, so was limited to 3.2s exposures iirc, and only took about 50 in total.
Still amazing what you can see with no specialist astro gear though.

So today bluesky really really wants me to look at squirrel or fox photos for some reason and I have no idea why. About half my feed is one or the other!

It's nice it suggests things outside my usual circle, I like this, but this is a bit much tbh.

This image is what sent me down the astrophotography rabbit hole.
There was a bright "star" in the sky that I thought might be Jupiter, so I pointed my DSLR at it with a 300mm lens to see if I could make it out any better. I couldn't, but I COULD see the Galilean moons.

Blown away by a few dots...

Finally got round to stacking some moon and comet images from Thursday. Nothing too fancy, it's been a while since I last image stacked and have pretty much forgotten everything I had learned 😂

I'm new here, exiled from the realm of space Karen... So here's some comets and mountain biking, or Astrobiking as I like to call it.
I also like fishing, nature, gaming and general nerd stuff.
