I’m having this feeling like Harris is gonna win both popular and electoral college but democrats are somehow going to cede the election anyway, probably to “protect democracy.”

The current experience of powerlessness isn’t really the loss of an ability to affect outcomes in politics. We still have the power to choose between party candidates. It’s the loss of feeling like we understand what’s happening - the power to explain.

Imo the whole Trump phenomenon, even to an extent the racism, boils down to a divide between those who trust institutions (esp media) and those who don’t. Lots of ways to distrust media, only one way to trust it. msm is obviously inherently unable to grasp distrust in media or counter it.

Political commentators love to dismiss analysis that goes beyond a certain threshold by suddenly claiming the world is just incomprehensible. Variations on “we’ll never really understand why wars happen.” The world is at bottom incomprehensible yes but you haven’t even approached the bottom!

I’m just gonna point out that saying there’s no satisfying understanding of The Way Things Are already asserts an ideological theory of The Way Things Are, just one that discourages digging deeper into motives and causes.
