today i wrote 1000 more words of my (eventual butchfemme) monster hunter fantasy novel!! im so proud of myself for sitting down, pushing through, and writing it. here’s a lil snippet just cause (though it’s not between the butch and the femme)

Her eyes slid to the guy next to him, and she tried to keep her face neutral as she took him in. His voice was low and smooth, but something about it bothered her too, niggling at the back of her mind. “You must be the foundling,” he prodded. “That I am,” she admitted. “Apparently.” Her eyes shifted to Sky, then back to the mystery guy. “I’m Cassie,” she offered, smiling. “Maren,” he said casually, and Cassie did a double-take. “You’re Maren?” she blurted without thinking, and immediately regretted it. He — no, she, Cassie corrected — made a bemused expression and turned to face Sky. Everything that had bugged her about Maren suddenly made sense. Everything about her — her height, her musculature, her bone structure — it had all made Cassie assume male. But she could see now where she’d been wrong; the lashes just a bit too long, the lips just a bit too full, and her chest — just a bit too rounded to be pure muscle. And her voice, not really male per se now that she thought about it but somewhere on the precipice between genders, balanced and unique. Still, if Skye hadn’t mentioned her before, Cassie probably never would have noticed.
