Big enough for the the door to open, there to be a tray for shoes, and then that solid oak hall tree with a useless drawer and tabletop for mail to pile up. And a door on the opposite wall for the coat closet.

Foyers and vestibules are for buildings like churches, not homes, imo

I’ve lived in Oklahoma and Kansas, and my Oklahoma family would say doorway or entryway. As in, “don’t just stand in the door/doorway, come in” or “you left your shoes in the entryway.”
