I'm fortunate to live in Orkney, a place which some describe as bleak and barren but if you know where to look there is plenty of nature to explore and enjoy.

BTO C permit bird ringer.
Unexpected letter in the post today. Thank you @_BTO

Frogs have been busy in the our pond for the last couple of weeks It's very busy in there today, although some of the frogs seem to leaving the pond and heading off into the undergrowth I've just done a count and there are at least 137 frogs!!

New record count of 95 frogs in my garden pond this morning.

They are very active today despite the strong cold wind blowing them about a bit.

Did a short circular (more squareish) walk up to my local trig point this afternoon and all I saw, bird wise, was a single Hooded Crow. All the others must have been sheltering from the cold wind!!

We are hiring seasonal hospitality staff!

These are exciting opportunities to relocate seasonally to Shetland, working with a close-knit hospitality team at our guesthouse on the UK’s most remote inhabited island.

Just been updating my BTO GBW submissions or 2024, been a bit slow this year in keeping up to date. Had a quick look at the species list for the garden and was pleased to find it now stands at 53. It's actually 54 as I couldn't add the 2019 Dusky Warbler.

Finally setup an account here to go with my @BurrayBirding account on X.

Mainly for posting about birding on the Orkney island of Burray but will include things about birding in Orkney and other birding related things.
