New Mexico has the second largest sovereign wealth fund in the US. The state is not poor but too many of our people are hence the high use of federal programs. I would argue that the state should use its wealth to do more to alleviate the burden of poverty but this is one step in that direction.

Great article...but the framing of "frustrating Trump's ambitions" is part of our problem. He's not just a hopeful politician, he's breaking the law. The court actions "frustrating his ambitions" are rulings that his administration did or is trying to do something illegal. The difference matters!

Hi there! I follow you and am a lifelong New Mexican. Many of your points are well-taken. But it is also true that we're outliers in these policies and they do seem to be correlated to our inability to attract and retain providers. (1/2)
