For sure, and the difference is so nebulous. An artist only has to say "no this iswhat I wanted to do" to muddy the waters. And then it's up to the listener to determine if that's genuine. Or if it even matters. Some people are more authentic liars than others telling the truth. Art is weird.

"Selling out" is weird, b/c now artists are sometimes not even taking a full cut on their merch. So like should art only be made by independently wealthy people? I would put my stuff in a commercial in a second. The question to be answered, did you write it to be a commercial?

It def dates back to insular music scenes and how difficult it used to be to track down records, find/put on shows, etc. You literally had to live a different lifestyle to know about it. Still a little true, but def different with the internet/ streaming. Less barrier for entry, rings more hollow.

Technically I think the opposite of a vibe would be the same vibe out of phase. 2 frequencies perfectly out of phase cancel each other out. The absence of a vibe would be stillness. Much the same way "cold" isn't really a thing, it's just the absence of heat.
