An elder millennial turned leftover terrestrial, former combat soldier (fodder) turned free verse Ginsburg-esque poet, and non-practicing intellectual trying to dream bigger than a six inch screen as a local community host for poetry open mics.

Last month's #community #poetry #openmic that I host was my most attended since I started it. We had 11. Last night it was held again, and we beat that with 19 attending. It was incredible y'all!
BlueSky poetry section is very useful.

I like how I used all the correct tags and everyone's just ignored my question.

It's so difficult to put on a positive face these days. So much fragmentation. So much unwillingness to help.

C'est la vie.

Anyone want to fill me in on how to make people care about poetry? Open mics? I've been running one for almost two years with almost nothing to show for it. Lots of one-timers and they never come back.

Feels like having to pull teeth and, it's difficult to stay positive.

@democrats-veterans.house.gov

Why do you let them get away with saying this kind of stuff? Why are you letting them take credit for things y'all did? This is what the ppl mean when they say they watch the Dems to fight back to stop this kind of stuff from happening and take credit for what you did.

I'm sick of news that makes me think even for a moment 'that's it, that's the whole ballgame'

I'll never *actually accept the idea that all is lost. but some days are harder than others

@zeteo.com Hope y'all snatch up Joy Reid after she was unceremoniously axed from MSNBC for doing her job.

Kendrick Lamar straight out called him out at the start of his show when he said, the revolution about to be televised. You picked the right time, but the wrong guy.

@chrislhayes.bsky.social Why isn't MSNBC screaming from the rooftops about Elon Musk taking over the Treasury Department?

Someone asked me after the open mic if they could read my work online. It was bittersweet having to say no. I'd love to share it, but I'm holding off until it's in manuscript form, due to online AI scraping.

They want us to feel despair. They want us to feel insignificant. They want to max out our bandwidth. They want us to be numb. They want us to stop shining the light on their depravity so that they can be free to conspire against us in the shadows.

Don't give them what they want.

José "Cha Cha" Jiménez, a street-wise Puerto Rican who in the late 1960s transformed a Chicago gang called the Young Lords into a militant voice for expanded social services, fair housing and education for his people, has died at 76. RIP.

He retooled the Young Lords into a militant advocacy and service organization, modeled after the Black Panthers. Based in Chicago, it had chapters nationwide.

I don't know what I write. In chats at open mics, some people refer to it as free verse, one even said it sounds like Ginsburg (swoon), some call it rhythmic prose, some say it's definitely not slam poetry, but it definitely is some form of poetry. Mixed feelings on existing in uncertainty.

I was told that the January 6ers were ANTIFA and BLM. Why would Trump pardon them??

Dana Margolin's voice is so raw and achingly honest; it cuts right through you. The music is a whirlwind: gentle and introspective, other times exploding. It's beautiful and devastating, carrying the weight and struggle of her heartbreak. #postpunk #indierock

People who cape the hardest for TikTok seemed to be apolitical to me. Now I'm seeing video after video of people in the TikTok community praising Trump.

Tabling the fact that this was a scam, we care more about saving social media than we do about saving democracy, we are our own worst enemy.

open.spotify.com/album/6EQlO9... I really, really, really like this. The vocals remind me of Carcass. The music reminds me of older Dark Tranquility and Amorphis. So a nice mix between Gothenburg death metal, and Finnish death metal. #2025music #deathmetal #music

I have a newer poem that I've been working on for 25 days or so now trying to memorize it. I did it for the first time from memory last night, and it mostly did okay, I had a hiccup at the start but I was told that I recovered well but I left out two words when I picked it up again. #poetry #openmic

My favorite movies growing up were Flight of the Navigator, and Harry and the Hendersons and I haven't watched them in over 25 years.

After working on it for a month, and then editing it while I was memorizing it (dumb, lol) for the last month since I finished the first version, I can confidently say that I have officially memorized my newest poem at 473 words.

I'm proud because it's been a while since I've memorized one. #poetry

My new apartment's office manager was complaining about a $30 aluminum-free deodorant. I recommended mine (same brand as my shampoo/conditioner) for only $9, and she blurted out, "oh my god your hair is beautiful!" #longhair
