Chesapeake is Virginia’s 2nd most populous city. It voted for Harris in the fall. Its longtime sheriff called himself “Detain ‘Em Dave” because he was so cozy with ICE. Despite the fact that a blue wave was pretty clearly coming, Democrats didn’t even try to beat him. boltsmag.org/sheriff-elec...

Maine will vote in under two weeks on a measure that would make voting a lot harder for a lot of people, including disabled folks, older folks, and anyone who struggles to meet strict ID requirements.
If passed, this would really reshape voting in 2026.
