In the years following Stalin's death, the Soviet leadership began to remove his name from buildings. From 1953 and ending in 1961, the Lenin Mausoleum was the “Lenin and Stalin Mausoleum”. The process famously came to be known as “De-Stalinization.”

Fantastic semester-end studio class with my @princeton.edu piano students! Wonderful, wide-ranging program, ending with Alkan’s colossal and hypervirtuosic Le Festin d’Ésope.

Great recording session at Raccoon Castle East (aka my home studio) with the brilliant Joseph Martin Waters! The menu included my new solo piece “Proletariat Syncopations”, and Joe’s new solo piece “Cleansing” (inspired by Fats Waller, Art Tatum, and Stevie Wonder) for imminent release -stay tuned!

Had a blast performing last night at the Ellington Room in Manhattan Plaza, including the premiere of my own “Proletariat Syncopations”, as well as killer ragtime/stride-influenced pieces by Dan Cooper and Joseph Martin Waters, on a show called Rag Times, part of the Composers Concordance series.

Besides my own Proletariat Syncopations, I’ll be performing another ragtime-influenced piano piece by Dan Cooper called “Precariat”, which is a portmanteau of “precarious” and “proletariat.” Concert this Friday Dec. 5 @ the Ellington Room, Manhattan Plaza:

Relics of a bygone era, just unearthed. Taught at these 2 places, and 3 others (Brandeis, Berklee, and Clark U) in the same academic year. It was constantly stimulating, and occasionally exhausting. The following year, we moved to NY so I could start pursuing a DMA at Stony Brook with Gil Kalish.
