Burdock and Bramble
@burdockandbramble.bsky.social
An anti-industrial farm specializing in rewilding and agroforestry.
45 acres of forest regrown since 1999, farming in these same Northern Appalachian hills since 1983.
Beware: not a gentrifier or hobby farmer, may have actual opinions
And this is why we let the thistles grow. Covered in dozens of species today, truly glorious.

I should've pruned more effectively but watching this tree explode every spring is a joy.

Our backup barnyard mix roo- he's got all of our desired personal flock qualities except he's terrible with hens.
He's only here in case we lose one of the other roos.

I'd love to throw him in with a new set of feisty grown hens to put him in his place but avian flu put a stop on that.

Their mother took a little unscheduled voluntary jaunt across the yard so her children required bribery to settle lol

Recently rewilded meadow on what used to be a literal dust bowl resulting from overmowing a monoculture lawn on thin soil.

I've been neglecting this account. Busy time of year and >>gestures<<

We're trying to get ready for whatever kind of "winter" we'll get, for ourselves, our livestock, and the drop-off/feral cats (still looking for homes!).

One of the issues of rural life is drop-off cats.

"Shelters" often won't take cats, and one socially accepted "solution" is to ditch them near a farm.

If you don't like the concept of outdoor cats (and I agree), I always have extras that I don't have room in my house for.

It may not look like much but this forest didn't exist in 1999, it was 80% clear cut.

We don't need to be developing more, even in the name of green energy- we need to be doing *this*
