It’s funny, I was studying in Japan fall 1991 when grunge broke and had no idea. At a bar shortly after returning I heard Teen Spirit and excitedly asked my friends who it was. Fully bored by grunge already, they begrudgingly told me about Nirvana.

Not to be snarky, but could try women’s hockey instead? PWHL is starting soon, UMN is ranked #2 in the country, and UST has a new arena.

I’m always interested if the time works out! Related to streets advocacy, I knew someone working on walkability for a neighborhood org in St Paul and I suggested they look at OSM as a data source for analysis but I think it was just too technical.

I really thought we'd emerge from covid with an appreciation of the frailty of life. But Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan... the causal dehumanization of refugees... it's hard not to feel like we're all just bodies for the elite meat grinder.

6. Until we have communal confidence that permanently suspended people actually received detailed and ideally actionable reports on what happened (appeal processes should exist), it's going to keep feeling bad.

4. In the absence of confidence that every suspended person has been told happened, rumors and worst-case assumptions fill the vacuum. No one knows what behavior will get them banned. And this is all happening against the background of a high-stakes authoritarian slide. People are scared.

2. I think people who get suspended have the right to clear and specific information about what rules they broke and with which posts. Obvious bots maybe don't need this? But real humans do.
