Yeah sadly the part where your little guys have free will is like the main appeal of games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress. It's like watching an ant colony that you occasionally have input over, I honestly find it kinda therapeutic for my OCD but I can see how it could also do the exact opposite.

As someone who was prepared to learn and compute the entire Pathfinder 1E ruleset before I made a character, Standard settings worked just fine for me. If you're not already a Pathfinder player and you value your spare time though? Yeah, no harm in turning stuff down a little.

Oh, and if you're worried about Kiryu, don't be, he's doing just fine! I just got too lazy to keep up with the weekly posts. He's also pretty much capped out in size so there's not much to report on. Here's a nice comparison picture I made for his birthday! Look how big the little guy got in 1 year!

Secondly, in hindsight, it's kind of blowing my mind how well Doom 2016 recaptured the spirit of the originals while still being very much its own thing and not dragging itself down with nostalgia.
It's conceptually exactly what a reboot should be, I'm really impressed.
