Big love for invertebrates & wildflowers. Bonkers about #Bumblebees. Enjoys #WildlifeRecording 🐛🐝🔎 Northern England.
One of two Humming-bird Hawk-moths in the North Pennines yesterday! 🦋

Both were nectaring on Melancholy Thistle along a road verge. Such amazing moths! 🥰

Before I set off for my next section yesterday, I re-visited a spot from the rainy day before where I was convinced I had a fleeting glimpse of one of the North East's rarer bumbles...

A few minutes into the search, I had a lovely encounter with a Moss Carder Bee on Kidney Vetch! Buzzing!! 🐝💛

The first of the worker bumblebees!

Tree, Early, Red-tailed and Heath Bumblebees all enjoying Dandelion!

The first workers are teeny! As the season progresses, workers increase in size with more food & helpers in the nest to feed them as larvae 💛

Nothing quite beats the joy of seeing my first queen bumblebee of the year! 😭💛

A lovely queen Tree Bumblebee, soon followed by Early and Buff-tailed!

After what was such a tough year for bumbles, seeing the first queens out and about fills my heart with so much joy 💛

A very soggy and windy #NewYearPlantHunt with Cumbria Wildlife Trust volunteers and staff today! 🔎

We wandered locally from our northern office, spotting 17 species in flower before heading back for some warm drinks and festive nibbles!

We have been rummaging through our Bug Bunkers for The Buzz Club with volunteers 🔎

We were amazed to find this little Christmas bauble attached to a leaf!

We think it’s the egg sac of a pirate spider (Ero sp.) 🕷️🥚

A species high up on my fungi bucket list! 🍄 The temperate rainforest specialist Hazel Gloves! 🤩

Explored a lovely Atlantic Hazelwood in #Argyll earlier this week. While found on Hazel it’s actually parasitic on another fungus, Glue Crust!
