For some reason, I just thought of the prolific R.L. Stine (over 300 books) on a long book tour slog for his Goosebumps series. A kid came up & said, "I've read every single one of your books and boy, are they boring!" That anecdote always makes me laugh.

The mourners are a very specific minority slice of the population. I'm sorry for the loss they're feeling, truly. But to make this a mandatory national incident that all must observe is just not right.

Outside of the hardcore MAGA base, my guess is that 70-80% of the US population had no idea who he was. I'm plugged in politically and I had truly only a vague idea of who he was. Now flags are half-staff and there is national mourning. I'm dumbfounded. What happened?

This is hideous. "We have the watch" is a sacred blessing and farewell reserved only from one sworn law enforcement officer to another. Whether you agree with their politics, Patel and Kirk were never sworn officers & Patel was had no right to use this phrase.

Sweet Charlotte, mine was caught so early that it was cut out & I didn't even need chemo or radiation & I'm cancer free. Screenings are great. Plus, I'm such a loud meanie that I plunked down a big deposit & went anyway. BIG shoutout to the world class City of Hope cancer hospital in Los Angeles!

No one in this entire thread listened to the point I was making or was open to the importance of not claiming one's own minority group to the exclusion of the big picture (I fit into several marginilized groups & I will never let that keep me from letting an R into office). I won't be that selfish.
