So it’s been a REALLY rough couple months.

- moved 100 miles away

- learned that I will never rent from someone who has no experience and doesn’t hire a propert manager to keep them grounded in tenet law

- got rid of 70% of my belonging

- started back in school

So a low chapter in Portland history is that a lot of the gentrification in North Portland followed a period where some of the hospitals in Portland started putting liens on homes of people who had hospital bills shown to have been largely focused on neighborhoods with high black home ownership

So if you are lucky enough to hear a tree trimmer making wood chips I would go talk to them and see if you can get it dumped wherever you live. Over the winter it’s OK to let the pile steam rather than spread it out but it’s also OK to spread it out if that’s the aesthetics you need

The other river through portalnd is the Willammette which is one of the few remaining landscapes with Molisols, the important soils (engineered by grasslands maintained by long traditions of Cultural Burneing) for food production.

I had a dream that the new Air Bud movie was a remake of Capra’s Mr. Smith goes to Washington

reminder that Portland is on the mouth of the Columbia river, a river so completetely damed that it represents the greatest source of hydroelectric power on the continent.

it produces "more that 40% of US hydroelectric generation"

An important thing we can recover when we feel small or alone is to realize that a huge amount of the power that creates a sense of inevitability is through the erasure of connections and history. The difference between a construction of the individual & the fact that most things are relational

It’s so funny to me to have people from Chicago saying that Portland is being weird for the way that it’s doing protest. PDX learned street theater from the people who came from Chicago in the 60s. Chicago was where Yippie! Elected a pig for president.

Before the commodification of p d x, alll that “weird” was continuity of movements from Labor, SNCC, Vietnam, spray wars, etc etc etc. it was demolished in the p ortlsndia tv era.

The weird was movement memory.
Afterward it was kind of just boring

So. The opening scene of pynchon’s new novel includes people involved in illegal bowling ball heating in order to change the density and grip of rubberized bowling balls in the 1930s as part of a legal fixing of games. I had no idea

So we had a Urban planner who was pretty great who left Portland about 15 years ago and his reason was that he believed that Portland has shifted from actual strategic urban planning to this sort of festive marketplace thing that really was covering up privatization and real estate.
Great news from Portland Parks. They've made it easier and cheaper for mobile vendors to set up at local parks!

Food trucks & other vendors make public spaces sticky & build community.

Hope this gives momentum to @councilorgreen.bsky.social hot dog ordinance. www.portland.gov/parks/news/2...

Exactly this shows exactly why it’s important to educate people about their true epistemological and ontological roots of eugenics what it actually is saying and doing. AI IS the result that project, not a victim of it.
A someone who has written extensively about the eugenic roots that permeates those who claim to be building so-called artificial general intelligence, I'm here to tell you to please NOT compare criticism against corporations claiming to build a machine god, with eugenics. The audacity.
