I like books and horror and mystery and nostalgia and kitsch and obscurity. And my cat. (she/her 💗💜💙)
Current read. Upstate New York millennial academia cosmic horror? It's real weird so far. I'm enjoying it.

The sentient blanket creature pictured here was a very good and brave boy at the vet today

Age yourself with your first computer!

The Speak & Spell sound effects live in my head forever, but I'll go with this one. Played a lot of Hangman on this bad boy.

Gonna try using this again.

Finished The Lost Village and really enjoyed it. Eerie and atmospheric. It's about a creepy abandoned village but it's also a lot about women and mental illness, which is a heavy topic that easily can become exploitative in this genre but it's done fairly well.

Putting the horror movie viewing on hold to start Fall of the House of Usher tonight. Fuck me up, Flanagan.

It's cool, Cecil. No need to move. I don't need my left arm for anything anyway and your entire zonked-out weight resting directly on my wrist definitely isn't heavy at all.

Tonight's film: Deadstream (2022). It was genuinely pretty funny and the Evil Dead influence was a nostalgic treat. The messages about internet fame and "cancel culture" were somehow both unsubtle and muddled, but it was a worthy entry in the growing collection of Idiots vs. the Paranormal films.

Google has an interesting definition of "comedies"

Lovely little surprise in the mail today-- a nostalgic scented wax melt from Leftover Pizza Podcast! It smells like every cool October night I spent watching Garfield's Halloween Adventure with a bowl of popcorn and a mug of cider and at least a tiny scrap of hope for the future. I miss those days.

Good news: he's not in the bathroom cabinets.

Bad news: he's snoring and I can't move. 🙄

Tonight's movie: Cobweb. I went in knowing nothing except that the trailer had a pleasantly modern-gothic atmosphere, and that was the best way to experience it. I think these sorts of films are STARTING to have diminishing returns, but it was still fun. I wish Guillermo del Toro had directed it.

Oh also I found a new bookstore. Books & Fields in Perry, NY is absolutely full of treasures and I will definitely be back. Picked up some crime gems, including an omnibus of one of the first mystery series featuring an openly gay sleuth, first published in 1970!

Okay, OTHER best friend.

I went to the craftshow today. I think I showed near-heroic restraint in only buying a few things, but I made them count. The ghost is my new best friend.

Flipping through some horror-related nonfiction on a lazy October Saturday!

after this absolutely unhinged behavior he came and laid on my entire arm and aggressively purred for like 15 minutes. I swear to god

Tonight's film, NOT chosen at random: V/H/S 85! I've seen every other film in the series thus far (hail Raatma) and I'm excited to see how this one stacks up. '85 was a pretty good year, after all.

Crazy that this came up because a) I was considering watching it before I decided to randomize and b) it's VERY thematically connected to the last pick. Here goes... The Video Dead (1987)!

(I've already seen it, but should I just finish off the trilogy of "TV is scary actually" with TerrorVision?)
October 4, 2023 at 11:48 PM
I'm not going to commit to a horror movie every night of October, because I never finish anything I start, but I am going back to my big list of horror movies I haven't seen-- good, bad, old, new-- and letting the random number generator pick for me.

Tonight's pick: Shocker (1989).

If I could use this thing as seating, I would absolutely buy it.

The saga of Cecil cat and his new favorite blanket continues. The single outstretched paw indicates percieved ownership. The expression says "get your own."

I think femme Herbert West is the vibe for me
