In a world full of health and nutrition problems as well societal conflict . . .

We are solving for “accent removal” with AI.

This is how I know we are not in any danger of using tech to solves our most pressing problems.

I feel like Khaya’s post on this matter should be more widely distributed.

Let’s see how quickly or slowly this correction will trudge around the world.

Will it provoke reflection and outrage on the lack of attention to loss of lives in Congo (where the image actually comes from)? If not why not?

The gap between what the world needs and what we’re building is significant.

It’s worldwide!

South Africans also got similar % increase.

Basically, people were not opting in to pay for AI products so they’ve bundled them and everyone gets to pay for the benefit of these “cutting edge” tools.

No news for now on compensation for the data they will mine from users ;)

More people coming to the bigger table(s):

“Globally, the share of low income countries has declined significantly over the past quarter century, dropping from 30.7% in 2000 to just 11.9% today”.

Eye on the prize.
Protect your peace.

For many who missed this book - this was Dambisa's breakout 2009 book. You either hated it or loved it.

Angry, unapologetic, tough and uncensored.

You may not agree with all the ideas - but it's time to redesign Africa's future relationship with aid. Available @bookshop-org.bsky.social .

In Southern Africa they also have politically incorrect, common names for the bags - “Shangani bag” and “khonza ekhaya” (a Zulu term, meaning “goodbye home”).

Incidentally these are an easy way to shop for them online. Wherever you are.

A consistent theme as countries lean into strong anti-immigration pressure - is that it turns out the locals don’t want to do the jobs the immigrants are doing.

South Africa is no exception. Gig work is taking off but locals don’t want the gig. What now?
